NEWS & BLOG

Telluride Mushroom Festival, London’s Floating Cinema and…. the book!

Some further screenings to announce for the coming weeks, but first another important piece of news. The book accompaniment The Creeping Garden: Irrational Encounters with Plasmodial Slime Moulds has now been printed and should be shipping by the end of the month. We’re remarkably proud to be the first publication from the new imprint Alchimia Publishing, and really hope readers will find it the ideal companion to the film.

As well as providing some insight into the making process and how we filmed the various microscopic and “time magnification” shots, the text, lavishly illustrated with images from the film (and a lot more that weren’t included in the final cut) goes into a lot more depth into the science behind the slime mould research, the biology of slime moulds and the history of slime mould research.

You can order the book from the Alchimia website as well as get a glimpse at the cover and contents of this beautifully produced tome.

We are also tremendously excited that the film has found a home from home as part of the legendary Telluride Mushroom Festival, to be held between 13-16 August and immortalised in Ron Mann’s wonderful 2008 documentary Know Your Mushrooms.

It will be screening at 9:00pm on Saturday 15 August 2015 at Telluride’s quite fantastic looking Sheridan Opera House and if you’re in the area, advance bookings are being taken here.

We’re overjoyed that the film will be screening to the world’s largest congregation of fungi fanatics (and yes, we know that slime moulds aren’t really fungi!), and only wish we could be over in Telluride with it – especially as the festival, all things going to plan, will be the first place anyone can purchase the book. It will also be the last time The Creeping Garden is shown in the U.S. prior to its theatrical run, starting at Film Forum in New York on 30 September – and we will definitely be there for that! For details of its theatrical release, see here.

The next screening is somewhat closer to home in London, on 30 August, in the equally exotic locale of a boat, as part of this year’s Floating Cinema On Tour. The screening will be taking place at 7.30pm as part of the EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL > EVERYDAY ALIENS, and will be preceded by a slime mould workshop, where you can get a personal lesson in Physarum care from one of the film’s stars Heather Barnett! More details about tickets and where exactly the boat will be moored here.

There’ll be more announcements to following shortly, including news about some further European festivals and standalone screenings, so keep watching this space…
